Online Catalogs are a way for members to inventory items they own. These catalogs are either set to Public or Private. Thus, you control who sees them. If you make a catalog Public, you can also enable the Group Valuation feature which allows other members to give an estimate of what they think your item is worth.
Catalogs are a great way to provide real estimates to insurance companies and validate insurance claims if any. This is also a great way to share technical information with others about the item that is cataloged. You could provide tips and trick about usage, repairs or anything else of value to the community under the notes section of your cataloged item.
A collection is a parent of a catalog. When you create a catalog entry, you need to place it in a collection. For example, lets say you are going to inventory 10 camera lenses. You could create a collection called "My Lenses" and place all 10 lenses in the "My Lenses" collection.
Creating a Catalog Entry
When creating the catalog entry, select the Collection from a drop list of exiting collections or add a new collection on the same form. But wait, you can add catalogs to multiple collections. Lets take the example above where you added 10 Nikon enses to the collection "My Lenses" If you had additional collections like "My Nikon Gear" or "Wide Angle Lenses", you could add a Catalog Item to the additional Collections by simpy holding the Ctr-l key and selecting multiple collections.
To access member catalogs which are public and provide your price estimates, simply click on Explore from the top menu then on Catalogs.
To view your own catalog or add items to it, click on My Online Catalog from the top menu under your username. There you will see an icon on the right side for adding new catalog entries. Just click on the icon. You can add images to your online catalog once you have submitted the catalog. Just Edit an existing catalg entry and add images there.
As always, you can make these features private by turning them on or off in your settings.
